Nine people were killed on Sunday night in an accident in the Ratili area along the Narok-Bomet road, Narok County. The incident occurred when a rear tyre of the Bomet-bound matatu burst, causing the driver to lose control and the vehicle to roll 20 meters off the road around 7 p.m.
The accident resulted in the immediate deaths of six men and two women, while a child later died at Longisa County Referral Hospital. The driver of the matatu was also among the deceased.
Two men were admitted to the hospital with serious injuries. The bodies of those who died were taken to the Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary for identification and autopsy.
