Police in Nairobi are under scrutiny after the fatal shooting of Rex Kanyike Masai, a 24-year-old protester, during the Gen Z-led demonstrations against the proposed Finance Bill 2024 on Thursday evening.

Masai was shot in the knee by a rogue officer using live rounds near Hilton Hotel on Moi Avenue. The bullet remained lodged in his body, causing him to bleed to death before he could receive proper medical attention.

Masai’s death has sparked public outrage, with Kenyans demanding justice on social media. Activist Boniface Mwangi confirmed the incident, sharing that he met with Masai‚Äôs grieving parents at the City Mortuary.
