Who is Rigathi Gachagua
Rigathi Gachagua has been serving as the Deputy President of Kenya since September 2022, working alongside President William Ruto. He is a member of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) political party, which is led by President Ruto. Gachagua is popularly known by the nickname “Riggy G,” a moniker given to him by one of his supporters, which he has publicly embraced.
Rigathi Gachagua Origin
Rigathi Gachagua, who refers to himself as the “truthful man,” was born in a small village in Nyeri County in 1965. Now 56 years old, Gachagua also sometimes calls himself the “Son of Mau Mau.” He has risen from serving a single term as a Member of Parliament to becoming the Deputy President of Kenya.
Education
Rigathi Gachagua started his education in Kabiruini Primary School from 1971 to 1977. For his secondary education he went to Kirinyaga high school from 1978 to 1981, later joined University of Nairobi for higher education.
Career
Rigathi Gachagua started his political career in 2017 after death of his bigger brother Nderitu who was former governor of Nyeri county, he ran for Mathira constituency from 2017 to 2022 when William Ruto picked him for position for a running mate, where they won 2022 general elections to position of Deputy president.
Family
Rigathi Gachagua is married to Dorcas Wanjiku whom they have two sons age 30 and 32, Rigathi Gachagua lost his father in 2022 and as the eldest son he is now the family leader after also death of his brother who succumbed to alcoholism and since then Rigathi has vowed to fight alcoholism in Kenya.
Tribe
Rigathi Gachagua is from Kikuyu community in Central Kenya, particularly in Nyeri County. A lot of people have mistaken for to be from ‘Kalenjin community’ due to his looks and closeness to form president Moi when he was working a district commissioner in Moi Era
